Door lock fault. This car had one door not locking, which seems to be common complaint on this era of VW and Audi cars. After the initial diagnosis confirmed it was a mechanical internal to the door lock mechanism (which unfortunately is sealed and unrepairable) a new replacement part was ordered in.
Then came the fun part. To access the lock mechanism, instead of removing the inner door trim (like on most cars) this type requires us to completely unbolt the outer door skin and remove it after disconnecting the outer door handle! It looks like very extreme lengths to go to replace a door lock, but in reality, is just another way around the same problem.
With everything bolted back up and the door skin properly aligned, the system was tested and customer happy his car could be left securely locked once again.
